The Lion roared
Rattling the window in its frame.
It unnerved the dog,
Who barked and barked with false bravado
In hopes the intruder would not be wise to her fear;
It was the shrill sound of The Lamb
Whistling eerily through the front door
That set the hair on my neck to attention
The dog paid it no mind.
A stillness settled after dark;
We all slept
