Saving the Daylight

I lost an hour of my life last night
Done in order to save the daylight;
So many things in danger I’m aware
Like frogs, and whales, and polar bear
Bees and elm trees, even arctic ice caps need be saved
Our efforts, we are told, should not be delayed;
Now it seems the daylight is in danger
That would be a real game changer
For nothing is as dependable as the rising sun
Its brightness in the Milky Way rarely outdone
Sunlight is Mother Earth’s source of energy
Made into food by all manner of plants on land and sea
Our lives surely depend on its preservation
But with daylight savings I register my reservation.
If it’s so important why don’t we bank the light
Increase the number of hours of the night?
And if in losing an hour the danger I forestall
Why then is it given back each fall?

    1. I really appreciate you reading and taking the time to leave such thoughtful comments. I heard somewhere that daylight savings was designed to let retailers have more daylight for shoppers. If that’s true that really speaks to the power of the $$$. If it’s true I wonder why retailers didn’t buy more daylight or better yet add a couple of hours to our day :/ We all could use a few extra hours!
