Downtown Betty is a regular fixture
Installed at the corner of Anywhere USA,
No one is sure how she got there
Even less how to send her back from whence she has come;
Passerbys typically try to avert their child’s eyes
As if not seeing is not believing,
But Downtown Betty is no more a mirage
No more than you or than I;
Why should they think she’ll disappear in a blink
‘Cause for so long Betty’s called this street home.
There seems no easy solution to this delicate issue
Only assurance of one thing and one thing alone
On your next trip downtown it’s a safe bet you’ll find
Betty still in residence on her street.
