Still Life

Apples in a Blue Bowl

Young flesh,
tart and rebellious
offers a puckered face challenge;
upon ripening,
sweet and succulent,
becomes irresistible;
with time the frost appears
shriveling the skin and dulling the taste;
but not for all,
for there are some
who are treasured even more for their imperfections.
